Role of Coronary CTA in the Emergency Department
Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) has evolved as a modality for non-invasive coronary imaging and promises to revolutionize the diagnosis of acute MI. 64-channel Coronary CTA has achieved a high level of reliability and accuracy in the visualization of the coronary arteries and can detect calcified and more importantly non-calcified (soft or vulnerable) plaques. Articles in the Cardiology journal, Circulation, indicate that CCTA is 95% sensitive for detecting a 50% stenosis of the coronary arteries exceeding the 80% sensitivity for detecting a 70% stenosis typical of stress tests. |
